Teaching Social Studies

I have been working on a Social Studies pack for third grade and I finally have it posted! In my school district most of our resources for buying curriculum go to teaching language arts and math because those are the tested areas. I felt like I was struggling to find engaging Social Studies lessons for my students. I started the year using the few materials we have and it was obvious the students were not engaged. This is why I created Social Studies lessons for the entire year for 3rd grade. There is at least two activities for each Ohio New Learning Standards for Third Grade Social Studies but some standards have more activities. I have the Ohio New Learning Standards for Third Grade Social Studies on my teachers pay teachers page so you can see if they are similar to your standards if you are not in Ohio. Rounding

 I wanted to post my build a number and round to the nearest ten and hundred activity . Many of my students are struggling with rounding. I tried to use the rounding poems and tricks with them but they still were not understanding why to round up or down. That is why I decided to make this game where students have to use place value blocks to build the number then round it. I have seen a difference in my students ability to round. I hope this freebie is helpful for your students!
